Linda Mitchell

Created 2015. Mixed media on fabric.

Quilts tell stories, as do these pieces that originate from remnants of my life. Layered with strong linear narratives, they reference wall-hanging tapestries and traditional storytelling. As such, they tell the story of particular phrases I heard as a child, which powerfully impressed me at the time and still resonate. My mother was always telling me to hold my horses when I was a child. This phrase always seemed rather stifling to me, and rather annoying as my horses would prefer to run free. This was created at my studio at the Goat Farm Arts Center.
