STORM BREWING ON COLUMBUS CIRCLE
Karen LeeCreated in 2017. The Time Warner buildings loom high above Columbus Circle in New York City. Clouds - especially those of an approaching storm - often obscure large areas of these imposing buildings giving them an otherworldly and eerie quality. The original artwork is 19.5” x 23.75"", and it will arrive matted with a 3.5"" wide soft white acid free mat, and a mounting board of 3/8"" thick acid free foam core. With the mat, the dimensions are 26.5” x 30.75”. I create mixed media works combining digital photo manipulation and fiber arts. I use elements of multiple photos to compose a new image reflecting the story I want to tell. I print the image on specially treated fabric using a wide format archival ink printer. The next step in the process is layering and stitching to create additional texture and highlight specific areas. Then three coats of varnish are applied, and the pieces are matted and framed.
