Created in 2019. While the colorful artworks I create may look like paintings, in fact, they all begin in the digital darkroom. I use elements of multiple photographs to compose a new image reflecting the story I want to tell. The layering and blending of these photos is just the starting point, however. Just as artists working in traditional mediums do, I add or alter color, line, shape, and texture until the image becomes what I’ve seen in my mind’s eye. The first test print tells me if I’m on the right track; invariably, I’ll digitally repaint areas I feel aren’t working, and there are usually a number of subsequent trial runs. It can be a painstaking process, but when I see the finished work printed on fine art paper or specially treated fabric, I feel the joy - and relief - that accompanies a realized vision.
